Past

I’ve loved crafting creatively ever since I was a little girl. When persuing creative endeavors, I can be free in expressing myself in my own personal way. I’ve always known that when I grow up, I want to keep working on creative projects, but I never knew how or in what capacity I could gladly do so. I was aware that, if I went on with this journey, there had to be a purpose behind the work I create. Looking back, I am able to evaluate that I always used my creativity when I wanted to make something for a loved one, giving away anything I produced. Making an effort to make someone else happy, has been ingrained in me ever since I can remember.

Due to the school project ‘The world is wired’ in middle school, I learned the basics of how to think and operate as a beginning designer. Testing different materials to achieve the best-desired result, learning different techniques, collaborating with a sponsor building social connections, and making mistakes were all processes that I experienced for the first time. Due to this first encountered design project, I realized this is the direction I could see myself doing. Afterward, diving deeper into the world of design and visiting the DDW for the first time,  I learned the scale and possibilities that are possible in this field. Thereby, every project had a different purpose of improving the world.  I knew then, somewhere in this field of design, I could find my place and what I would like to do.

When starting the study Industrial Design, I wanted to gain more knowledge on building electric circuits, together with programming in Arduino in particular, as I felt this broadened the possibilities you hold as a designer. Furthermore, I needed to adapt to the fact I had to be open and honest about who I wanted to be as a designer towards fellow students and evaluate regularly on decisions that I made regarding design processes. Although this was new at first, I have come to the realization that feedback on choices that you’ve made is extremely helpful as your ideas are viewed with multiple fresh sets of eyes. Whenever I can, I openly welcome and ask for feedback today.

In addition, I admire the aesthetic elements of designs in general and recognize the value of presenting original work clearly and neatly. Due to my personal interest in photography, I was able to use this skill in both capturing pictures of many moments during design processes as well as during videography purposes. Although I have improved this skill over the past few years, I would still classify myself as an amateur photographer and would desire to improve in this field on a more advanced level.
